Naprapathic medicine is a safe and effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain. Naprapaths believe the human body has innate healing abilities that can be encouraged with the power of touch. Naprapathy was developed as “Modernized Chiropractic” by Dr. Oakley Smith in 1907. Naprapaths are soft-tissue specialists who work to identify tight and restricted connective tissues (muscles, fascia, ligaments, scar-tissue) in the body and stretch them open to facilitate proper nerve, vascular, and lymphatic flow to heal damaged tissue. Opening-up stiff joints and stretching tight connective tissue increases mobility and nutrition to that joint and the body as a whole.
Practically everyone. Naprapathy is perfect for all ages including elderly and geriatric patients. The treatment table Eli uses makes it easy to get on and off for those with limited mobility and is specifically designed to work on the spine in a gentle and effective way. Eli can see younger patients as well, though minors must be accompanied by a parent. Naprapathy is an asset for athletes who want to keep their bodies in ‘tip-top’ shape, whether they are healing from a sports injury or are seeking preventative care. Naprapathy is effective for those who suffer from all manner of chronic pain conditions. Eli also sees patients who are rehabbing from surgeries, accidents, or injuries. Naprapathy is great for prenatal care as well.
Wear loose fitting, comfortable, or athletic type clothing. Clothing that you can stretch in and move easily. Dresses or skirts are discouraged.
First-time appointments are 1 hour each, with a full assessment included. After your first session, appointments are 45 minutes.
Patients should know, going into a naprapathic treatment, that it is nothing like a spa massage. For a first-time treatment, Eli will begin his treatments with an intake of your specific issues, followed by an assessment that may include a postural assessment and orthopedic testing. Then the hands-on portion of the treatment will proceed based on your specific needs. Eli uses a Cox-8 instrument (flexion-distraction table) for adjusting the spine in a safe effective way. Eli does a lot of soft-tissue myofascial-release work such as trigger point therapy and active release technique. Eli incorporates stretching and movement and various tools into his treatments. Other therapies include Guasha (scraping), cupping, microcurrent point stimulation (scar release), low level laser and more. At the conclusion of the hands-on portion of the treatment, Eli may give you ‘homework’ such as at-home exercises and/or recommend nutritional supplements to facilitate your healing. Eli will also recommend a treatment plan for how many more treatments and at what frequency would be best to solve your specific issues.
Dr. Eli does a lot of soft tissue work that involves releasing trigger points and breaking up scar-tissue and adhesions, so sometimes these therapies can be uncomfortable. Eli is always going for the “hurts-so-good” kind of pain which will be the most effective and therapeutic for the patient. No pain from the therapy should exceed 7 out of 10 on a pain scale and most of the treatment should feel quite good and even relaxing. The most important thing is as a patient you feel empowered to communicate your needs and what you are experiencing. These treatments rely on good open communication between patient and provider.
After your appointment you should feel better! You should feel looser, and it is normal to feel like you ‘have a brand-new body’. It is also normal to feel ‘sore’ after a naprapathic treatment, particularly, sore like you worked-out. You may have some spots that are tender to the touch, but that soreness should go away in a day or two.
Dr. Eli will discuss an appropriate treatment plan with each patient. Eli doesn’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach to healing so treatment plans will be determined based on the severity of the condition, the age and health of the patient, and goals of that patient. Some patients may require maintenance treatments on a regular basis and others may only need one or two treatments to fix their issues.
For the time being, Regeneration Health & Wellness does not bill health insurance and is a cash-only clinic. Please see below for current rates.
